Shorten command output while keeping a way to recover it

jevprune reduces long command output before a coding assistant reads it. It keeps original text, protects important error context, and points back to saved ranges that were left out.

Our summary

Long command output can overwhelm a coding assistant. jevprune selects useful lines while preserving their exact text and order. Long omitted sections become markers naming a saved run and line range, so a person or assistant can recover the original evidence before assuming something is absent.

Before normal Jev selection, default rules keep the last forty lines, recognized errors, and three surrounding lines on each side. Failed or oversized requests use stated backup behaviours that differ between the add-on and standalone tool. Some pass output through unchanged; others keep the beginning, end, and error context.

Selection may hide a relevant line, selected text goes to TypeSafe, and the saved original may contain private information. Recovery works only while that local record exists. A smaller output is not proof of better decisions. Avoid removing evidence needed for audits or exact diagnosis.

Key takeaways

  1. Normal selection protects the end and error context, not every opening line.
  2. Keep original output so omitted ranges remain recoverable.
  3. Check the tool's backup behaviour and treatment of sensitive output.
